Something New

I recently bought this little banner from the dollar section of target that states, "start something new." I'll be honest- I just bought it because I thought it would look cute hanging on my bulliten board in my dorm room. However, the more I noticed it, the more I thought about what the quote what saying.

If you know me, you know I like things I'm familiar with and things that are neat, quiet, and organized. Because of this, I hardly try new things or do things outside of my comfort zone. So when I thought about starting something new, it was hard for me to think of something that I would actually enjoy that I don't already do.

Typically when the phrase "start something new" or "try something new" is said, I think of crazy things like skydiving or eating a strange food. But after pondering this quote for awhile, I realized that starting something new doesn't have to be crazy and exotic. It can be as simple as saying hello to people while walking to class or trying a different flavored latte from your favorite coffee shop. Something new can be very simple and can change your perspective on life a little, and you don't have to travel across the world or pay a bunch of money to do it.

I know the thought of "something new" can be intimidating but I want to encourage you all to start or try something new this week. Here's a list of things you could try that I've thought of:

  • Listen to a new genre of music
  • Visit a new resturant or try something new from your favorite place
  • Say hello to a classmate or coworkers you rarely talk to
  • Visit a town outside of your hometown that you've never been to or have maybe just drove through
  • Try out a new form of exercise like yoga or pilates
I hope 2018 is full of new and exciting experiences. I will be sure to post about any new things I start and I would love to hear about your new experiences too! Don't forget to dream...

"Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands." - Isaiah 42:10 (NLT)
