New Year, New Goals and Habits (plus diy vision board)

A few days ago began a new year, 2019. With a new year, there always comes new years resolutions or goals and a fresh start. This is always one of my favorite times because usually by December I start to feel in a rut and the new year brings me back to life.

Not only have we started a new year, but those of us still in school have started a new semester. This new semester has brought me a new schedule and the planner in me was both excited and stressed. Planning a new schedule, however, has given me the opportunity to incorporate new habits and help me execute some of my goals for 2019.

In this blog post, I want to share with you some of my goals and how I'm incorporating them into my schedule. I will also be sharing with you how I created a vision board for 2019.

A few of my 2019 goals are:
- love my genuine self more
- grow in my relationship with the Lord
- save more money than I spend
- get into the habit of working out more often again
- embrace my singleness
- grow in my career skills
- enjoy Europe and other travels
- purge the stuff
- blog more often
- practice even more self-care

Throughout my week, the earliest I have to be anyway is 10:30 am (besides church on Sundays). I know the majority of people's days start sooner, however, it would very easy for me to sleep in until 10 and rush to get ready and go on with my day. With my new goals, I want to make the most of my mornings and use that time to be productive. I try to start my day with a routine that takes 1.5 hours so you could easily add this to your day earlier if you wanted. Below is my ideal morning routine that I have started to put into practice. It usually isn't the same every day but writing out an ideal morning is super helpful because you have an idea of what you could do with your time rather than lay in bed for an hour or whatever else you may do that's unproductive and not helping you reach your goals.

7:30 am - Wake up
(stretch, plan my day, do a devotional, make coffee)
8:00 am - Exercise
(do yoga or abs workouts, head over to the gym)
8:30 am - Get ready
(shower, get dressed, brush teeth, do hair/makeup, eat breakfast)

As I mentioned before, I also made a vision board to get track of my goals. Below is a picture and if you notice, I have separated the board into six areas (4 on top and 2 on the bottom). This bulletin board is right above my desk and somewhere I can look throughout the day to stay focused on my goals. You could even add a calendar next to yours to help too.

  1. Along the top is first two envelope pockets. These contain wooden sticks with bible verses and short workout ideas. These are things that can be done quickly and are accessible during the day to work on the goals of reading scripture more and working out more consistently.
  2. The next section along the top is one of my favorite pictures of myself surrounded my little quotes that say "You are loved," "You are a masterpiece," and "You are strong." This not only helps me with my goal of loving myself more but helps remind me that I'm doing these goals for myself and no one else. If I fail, I'm only disappointing myself and I can adjust my goals if I need to.
  3. The next section has a quote banner that reads "Start something new" which is what these goals are and I've written a post about this saying before if you want to check it out. Underneath the banner is my favorite verse, Matthew 6:34, which reads, "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today." This verse helps me a lot with my anxiety and to stay focused on the present.
  4. The last area along the top is labeled "achievements" and for now, is left blank. As the year goes on, I will pin up any achievements in this space to see what I've accomplished so far.
  5. On the left-hand side of the bottom is an area labeled "goals." Here I have posted quotes and visuals that reflect my goals listed above.
  6. The last space on my vision board is labeled "career." Here I have posted pictures from different stages of my career journey (Women's ministries events, working at camp, hall leadership) to remind me where my passion is and what I want to continue to build on.

I hope in sharing my goals and how I plan to practice them has inspired you a little bit. If you have any goals or tricks on staying motivated, I'd love to hear them in the comment section.
As always, keep dreaming-
e.k.
