Last week I attended Momentum youth conference as a
representative for Grace College as well as for Sister Mentoring with a
Mission. I have been to Women’s conferences and youth camps but never a youth
conference (however, it was much like a combination of the two). I was thankful
for the chance to experience this conference as an exhibitor, rather than a
teen or youth leader because I was able to interact with all the students and
just sit back and witness God at work in their lives. I loved having students walk
up to the table and share that God had placed going into ministry on their
heart this past week. One of my favorite moments was when a mom/youth leader
came up and told us about how her daughter was literally being moved by the
Holy Spirit and she was journaling, painting, and even now considering going to
a Christian college.
During a rare and short bit of free time I had last week, I
found myself reading from Romans 3. The few verses I read are as followed:
Then what’s the advantage of being a Jew? Is there any
value in the ceremony of circumcision? 2 Yes, there are great benefits! First
of all, the Jews were entrusted with the whole revelation of God. 3 True, some
of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean
God will be unfaithful? 4 Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God
is true. As the Scriptures say about him,
“You will be proved right in what you say,
and you will win your case in
court.”
5 “But,” some might say, “our sinfulness serves a good
purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn’t it unfair, then,
for him to punish us?” (This is merely a human point of view.) 6 Of course not!
If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world? 7
“But,” someone might still argue, “how can God condemn me as a sinner if my
dishonesty highlights his truthfulness and brings him more glory?” 8 And some
people even slander us by claiming that we say, “The more we sin, the better it
is!” Those who say such things deserve to be condemned.
Romans 3:1-8 NLT
I loved this reminder that even if everyone else is a liar,
God is true. He is true and serves as judge over all. How awesome and powerful
is our God!
In today’s world, we are constantly fed lies and the wrong
get to go through life easier than the right sometimes. However, God is just
and will condemn the unfaithful. When we admit we have done wrong and ask God
for forgiveness, we are humbled and able to take a step back closer to God. We
can continue to strive towards a relationship with our perfect God in this
imperfect world.
I hope you are encouraged by reading these verses as well,
knowing that the Lord is more powerful than any issue we may face on earth.
Draw near to him whenever you are feeling weak.
